After decades of high-speed growth, China became the second largest economy and is increasingly playing an important and influential role in the global economy. The ecological environment has improved significantly and people are enjoying more days of blue sky, cleaner water, and fertile land. Over the past few decades, China’s economic development has lifted hundreds of millions of Chinese out of poverty and resulted in a burgeoning middle class.

Over the next 20 years, China’s economy will remain centred on industry, although a shift from medium- to high-technology production will take place. China needs to study cities in countries that combine advanced industrial production with successful environmental protection. City development requires gigantic investment. Hundreds of billions of dollars will be spent on housing, transport, the power supply, sewerage, information technology infrastructure, environmental protection and numerous other fields. The reform and opening-up policy of the Chinese Government will move a step further with the introduction of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), with the economic development along the Yangtze River and coordinated development for the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region.  All these initiatives will create huge opportunities for European companies in China.

The European Chamber should help by providing assistance and support services to European enterprises in China, being a platform to share initiatives and ideas, and building a close communication channel with local authorities.

After twelve years in Suzhou, I moved to Tianjin in 2016; it was like starting from the beginning. With the support and initiatives of the European Chamber, in a short time I was able to expand my network. It’s a great pleasure for me to join Tianjin’s business community and share with colleagues from other European companies my problems, initiatives, ideas. Thanks to numerous different events arranged by the Chamber, I’ve been able to meet with many officials of the Tianjin Government; they helped me when I encountered difficulties. The European Chamber is a valid support in my business and personal life opportunities in Tianjin.
